"Tough!
tough! tough!" huff hackers on this "tight
layout" where "crowned fairways and greens
that force slightly off-line shots into unplayable rocks
and cacti" are par for the "penal" course
for designer Robert Trent Jones Jr.: with "unique
holes" meandering around a pinnacle", it's
a "must-play for anyone visiting the Valley of
the Sun" "on the outskirts of Phoenix",
though "without local knowledge", surviving
this desert design can be "brutal." |

|
This
high desert course features enough variety of terrain to challenge
the most experienced golfer. This is a typical Robert Trent
Jones, Jr. design and the first for him in the Phoenix area.
The high desert surrounds the immaculate fairways, and the
greens are fast, large, undulating, and elevated. There is
a water hazard that comes into play on holes #9 and #10. "Golf
Digest" rated it as the 16th "Best in State"
course for 1997-98. The 5,929-yard men's tee also has a ladies'
course rating of 74.9 and a slope of 137. Premium tee times
can be reserved eight to thirty days in advance.
Directions: At the intersections of Power and Thomas Roads in Mesa, Las
Sendas is a mere 40 minutes from Sky Harbor Airport and readily
accessible from all parts of the Valley. From 2,100 feet above
the Valley floor, you'll have a clear view of the Phoenix
metro area from Fountain Hills to South Mountain; from the
Superstition Mountains to the White Tanks.
