'An
unusual course for Arizona", this "challenging
but fair test" owned by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa
Indian Community was "designed after traditional
Scottish links" by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw;
"play off-season and take advantage of twilight
rates" for an "area bargain" boasting
"hard fairways" and deep, sprawling bunkers,
even if yipsters yawn that the "most interesting
features" in the "flat", "unispiring"
setting are the occasional sightings of "palominos"
and "Charles Barkley at the driving range." |
|
|
Profile: This facility is located in the East Valley near Phoenix and
features two eighteen hole courses. The links-style North
Course is a refreshing minimalist design that features wide
fairways void of any trees, strategic bunkering, native grasses
and unobstructed views. The North Course, which is located
on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, offers players
the chance to run their shots. The greens are open, the fairways
wide, and the roughly carved bunkers look as if they've been
there for hundreds of years. "GOLFWEEK" selected
the North Course 82nd among "America's 100 Best Modern
Courses" for 1999. The South Course features subtle elevation
changes, fingered bunkers and heavily-treed landscaping of
native cottonwoods and hardwoods. An expansive learning center
and clubhouse is also available.
